Comparing Registry Cleaners – 3 Things to Compare before you Buy

August 10, 2009

With the wave of registry cleaners to come on the market lately it’s difficult to say which program can do the best job improving your PC’s performance. There’s no science to choosing the best registry repair program to use, but there are some features to look at before buying.

Average Number of Errors

I’ve always suggested people download more then one registry repair free trial. These free scan utilities check over your entire registry and pick out the items it believes are errors. A list is provided to you displaying the total number of items found when the scan is complete.

By testing at least three different scans you can get an average for how many errors you likely have in your registry. If you test three programs and find that Scan A found 452 errors, Scan B found 475 errors and Scan C found 743 errors I would take the average that you have some where between 450 and 475 errors. The top registry cleaner usually isn’t the one that finds the most errors. It’s the one that improve your computers performance the greatest.

Backup/Restore

This is a must for any registry repair program. When a piece of software makes changes to your system files you must have the ability to undo those changes in case something bad happens or there’s data lost. Registry cleaners provide a backup feature that makes a copy of your current settings prior to repair. If something bad happens during the registry repair you can restore the old settings to undo the changes made. Be sure any registry cleaner you consider has a backup and restore feature.

Additional Features

While these programs are designed to repair the system registry they also come with added features that help speed up your computers performance. Special features worth considering are start-up manager, system optimizer, junk file cleaner and memory optimizer. Each of these features will improve the performance of your PC in specific areas outside the registry.
