Multiple session remote desktop in Windows XP Pro and Media Center Edition 2005

If you are ever with remote computer systems, such as Citrix or VNC, you have probably already craving for Remote Desktop sessions and fired first, and Windows XP Professional or Media Center Edition. Here is a workaround (Translation: Use at your own risk), so that a few sessions of Remote Desktop on XP Pro or MCE 2005 box:

1. Print these instructions so you have to work.
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
3. Turn off or disable the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) and Terminal Services

4. Uncheck “Allow users to connect to Remote Desktop on this computer”
5. Click OK
6. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Administration -> Services
7. Find Terminal Services in the list
8. Right-click Terminal Services, and then click Properties
9. At the start, select Disabled
10. Click OK, to close the window

Next, replace the current version of the Terminal Services DLL (Termsrv.dll) with the free version of the previous version of Terminal Services.

1. Here is a copy of the Terminal Services DLL – save it on your desktop or other convenient place
2. Open C:\Windows\system32\Dllcache
3. Rename the file to Termsrv.dll termsrv_dll.bak or what you want.
4. Copy file Termsrv.dll (which you just downloaded from the Internet) in C:\Windows\system32\Dllcache
5. Open of path folder C:\Windows\System32
6. Delete file C:\Windows\system32\Termsrv.dll

Select the key enable button, and actively enter the number of connections you want to include (eg:2 or least)
# Restart Windows
# Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
# Click the Remote tab at the top of the window
# Check the “Allow users to connect to Remote Desktop on this computer”
# Click “OK”
# Click Start -> Control Panel -> Administration -> Services. Select Terminal Services from the list and double click or right click -> Properties. Set the startup type Manual.
# Start Windows / PC

They should be good to go.
