You might have noticed that over the last 12 months, SIM only contracts have suddenly become popular. How do SIM only contract deals work? Well, it means that you would be buying a monthly price plan – and the details of it (like number of minutes, text messages and internet downloads) depend on which package you have chosen. With such packages, there is no fixed term period, and you could cancel your existing contract with just 30 days notice.

SIM only means that you would not be getting a handset with your short term contract. But if you want the latest mobile phone handset on contract, you would need to sign up for a fixed period contract. This would be for 12 months minimum – and this would mean putting forward payment for the cost of the handset, till 24 months. The SIM only system is amazing because it gives you the ability to change your price plan as and when you desire. For example, you might sign up for a pay monthly SIM only package that gives you 600 and 600 text messages, and perhaps you see, after a few weeks, that this isn’t appropriate for you. In such a situation, you could cancel and sign up for a new price plan that suits your individual needs better. The basic thing is that if you are unhappy with network service, you have the freedom to switch, and with a pay monthly SIM only deal, you just need 30 days notice to cancel, then you can try another package or even another network provider, if you want.

The leading mobile phone network service providers are O2, Orange, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile, which currently give only SIM card only deals. You would be surprised to find that the mobile phone retail sites sometimes add extra incentives to such deals with free cheap handsets added to the package, or even the offer of half price for a month – provided you agree to stay with them for a given set of time. With the intention of attracting customers to SIM only deals, low rate tariffs and low call rates are being offered by these leading network providers to potential customers – in fact, you might even get free landline calls, unlimited text messages, and even free internet browsing and downloads in the package! The main competitors Skype supports many platforms, including iPhone. Well, the quality of VoIP.
Platform / Network: Nokia Symbian phones, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Nokia Tablets
Cost: free VoIP calls, low minute to fixed and SMS.
Features: Gizmo5 allows calls to other Gizmo5 users and grants IM conversations with friends on Gizmo5, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, and Jabber.
